FLAG-OFF OF THE GREATER DUTSE WATER SUPPLY PROJECT AT SINTILMAWA BY THE HONORABLE MINISTER FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER PROFESSOR JOSEPH TERLUMUN UTSEV

Jidadu Ventures Limited is proud to announce its engagement as the main contractor for the Greater Dutse Water Supply Project, a landmark initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation. The project was officially flagged off at a groundbreaking ceremony held in Sintilmawa, Jigawa State.

The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, described the project as a transformative milestone designed to tackle water supply challenges and enhance the quality of life for over 1.5 million residents of Dutse and surrounding communities.

With a Federal Executive Council approval of ₦59.46 billion under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the project aims to close the region’s daily water deficit of 10 million liters. Backed by years of meticulous planning, including a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and detailed engineering designs, the initiative is set to be completed within 24 months.

Project Scope and Deliverables

As the implementing contractor, Jidadu Ventures Limited will oversee and execute the project’s full scope, which includes:

Drilling and installation of 35 industrial boreholes equipped with solar-powered pumping systems.

Construction of a 1,000m³/hr water treatment plant with modern infrastructure.

Development of reinforced concrete storage tanks and Braithwaite tanks at strategic points across the coverage area.

Laying of approximately 56.6 kilometers of HDPE pipelines for efficient water transmission.

Installation of solar systems, transformers, and standby generators to ensure consistent power supply.

Establishment of administrative and staff facilities to support long-term project operations.

Economic and Social Impact

The project is designed not only to deliver safe and clean drinking water but also to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and improve public health and sanitation across Jigawa State. A dedicated Project Implementation Unit (PIU)—comprising representatives from the Ministry of Water Resources, the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, and the Jigawa State Government—has been set up to ensure transparent execution and timely delivery.

Stakeholder Support and Acknowledgement

During the ceremony, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for addressing the long-standing issue of water scarcity in Dutse. Other dignitaries, including Hon. Sada Soli (Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources), Alhaji Hameem Muhammad Nuhu Sanusi (Emir of Dutse), and Ma’amun Da’u Aliyu (Outgoing MD, Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority), commended the government’s commitment and pledged support toward the project’s success.

A technical overview of the project was presented by Mr. Mukaila Babarinde, Director of Water Supply Services, while senior officials, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders in the water resources sector witnessed the event.

The ceremony concluded with the official groundbreaking and formal handover of the project site to Jidadu Ventures Limited for immediate mobilization and commencement of works.
